College Preparation List

To meet the changing needs of students, Residential Life provides as many comforts as possible so the students can make their living environment their home. Below is a list of recommended items for you to bring to University. However, there are some items that create danger to persons, damage to University property, create a fire/safety hazard, and/or a public nuisance and must not be used, possessed, or stored in the residence halls (including student rooms). What to Bring!

  • Alarm Clock
  • Bath mat
  • Bedding, such as a comforter, mattress pad, pillow and sheets (Standard Twin in Female Residence Halls and Extra Long Twin in Male Residence Halls)
  • Coaxial cable cord (minimum 15 feet)
  • Computer or laptop
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Ethernet cord (minimum 15 feet)
  • Floor fan (non air conditioned buildings only)
  • Fun stuff, such as pictures and posters
  • Iron/Ironing board
  • Latch and lock for the closet
  • Laundry detergent, fabric softener and laundry basket
  • One refrigerator per room (maximum of 4.3 cubic feet)
  • Plastic ware (cups, plates, silverware)
  • Shower caddy
  • Shower curtain
  • Shower shoes
  • Small lamp
  • Telephone and answering machine
  • Television
  • Toiletries
  • Towels
  • Umbrella/rain gear
  • Wastebasket
  • UL approved surge protected power strip (one per student)

What should I leave at home?

  • Drugs
  • Alcohol
  • All Pets
  • Anything that hangs from the ceiling
  • Any type of halogen light
  • Candles and incense
  • Electrical cooking appliances (coffee pot, deep fryer, toaster, toaster oven, sandwich maker, indoor grill, George Foreman grill, etc.)
  • Exercise weights/equipment
  • Extension cords
  • Lava lamps
  • Microwave
  • Real or replica gun (plastic, paintball, etc.)
  • Space heater
