Saint Augustine’s University proudly honors the remarkable legacy of our esteemed alumna, the late Millie Dunn Veasey, class of 1953, with the recent renaming of the post office located at 2777 Brentwood Road to the “Millie Dunn Veasey Post Office.” This recognition is a testament to her extraordinary contributions as a pioneering African American Women’s Army Corps member during World War II and her enduring influence in the community.

Millie Dunn Veasey served in the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only all-Black, all-female unit to operate overseas. This represented a pivotal moment in history, as her team understood the vital importance of communication during wartime. They advocated the mantra, “No mail, low morale.” Through their unwavering dedication, these courageous women ensured that our soldiers received crucial letters from their loved ones, reminding us of the power of connection and support.
