Dear SAU Community,

I write to you today in response to the recent decision by the US Supreme Court to strike down affirmative action programs at the University of North Carolina and Harvard. The Supreme Court missed the opportunity to fully democratize education and fulfill the promise of access to higher education for all its citizens. This ruling represents a significant shift in the consideration of race in the admissions process. It is likely to have significant implications for universities across the country.

We acknowledge this decision with great concern, as it overturns decades of precedent and disregards the historical importance of affirmative action in addressing the systemic and institutional discrimination that has affected marginalized communities.

Affirmative action has been vital in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. It has allowed universities to create learning environments that reflect the rich diversity of our society and provide opportunities for individuals who have historically faced barriers due to their race or ethnicity.

At Saint Augustine’s University, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing access and opportunities to all students, regardless of their background or circumstances. We believe that diversity enriches the educational experience, fosters cross-cultural understanding, and prepares our students to become global citizens and leaders in their fields.

While this ruling may present challenges, we will continue to advocate for the importance of a diverse and inclusive campus community. We will explore all available avenues to uphold our commitment to creating a supportive environment that embraces and celebrates differences.

We also affirm our belief in the transformative power of education and the potential of every student who walks through our doors. We will continue to provide resources, support, and mentorship to ensure that our students thrive and succeed, regardless of their obstacles.

In these uncertain times, I urge the SAU community to unite and reaffirm our shared inclusivity, justice, and equality values. Together, we will remain resilient and work towards a future where everyone can access the opportunities they deserve.
