Summer of Success Academy will be a six-week intensive academic, residential program that will help students gain academic skills enhancements to serve them throughout their college careers. The Summer of Success Academy will reinforce the importance of academic excellence by teaching effective study skills, supporting students with efficient tutorial assistance, and providing students with mentors. The three significant functions consist of academic enhancement, effective advisement, and centralized support services.

The program will promote and secure an environment where students will have an opportunity to grow personally while enhancing their academic and leadership skills. By attending the program, students will gain exposure to the full range of resources and facilities.

The Summer of Success Academy environment engages students in the following:

7 Academic Credits – 3 classes.

Tutoring and Academic Support

Summer of Success Academy participants receive extensive tutoring and full academic support to ensure students’ coursework.

These services include one-on-one and small-group tutoring, supplemental instruction, and structured study groups.

Student Success Seminars

Students receive an introduction to SAU campus resources, academic advising, personal learning styles, critical thinking skills, motivation, social issues, money management, career, and majors planning, health and wellness, personal safety and security, and campus involvement.

Social and Cultural Activities

Students are introduced to various social, service, and leadership opportunities available on campus and in the local community.

Learning Community Environment

Students will develop self-confidence, responsibility, friendships, and a sense of community by developing supportive relationships between participants, faculty, and staff members, enrolling in the same courses, and living in the residence hall community.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have applied and been offered admission to the University.
  • Must be under the age of 21.
  • Must have graduated from high school or earned a GED.
  • Must not have enrolled or attended college prior to application.
  • Must be willing to abide by all policies and procedures that governs the program.

COMPUTERIZED PLACEMENT TEST (ACCUPLACER)

The ACCUPLACER is a computerized assessment tool that is comprised of elementary algebra, sentence skills, and reading. It is offered to those who have not take the SAT or ACT. Test results are available immediately upon completion. Those interested in participating in the Summer of Success Academy are required to take the ACCUPLACER if they have not submitted test scores.

The ACCUPLACER is administered by College of General Studies (Center of Academic Support and Student Success). ACCUPLACER testing is done by appointment only. Please email Ms. Joyce Bannerman at JYBannerman@st-aug.edu to schedule your appointment.

PROGRAM FEES

The following is the cost of the Summer of Success Academy for students to participate.

Room, board, tuition, books and 7 credit hours:

Total Program cost: $3,000

FINANCIAL AID

Financial assistance is available for the Summer of Success Academy to assist with covering the cost of tuition, room and board, and fees. You must apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the (2022-2023) year. The deadline to the submit the FAFSA form 11:59 p.m. Central time (CT) on June 30, 2023.

To enroll for the Fall 2023 semester, after successful completion of the Summer of Success Academy, you must also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Note: You are financially responsible for the balance of any financial assistance minus the cost of the program.

APPLICATION PROCESS

If interested in the Summer Success Academy, complete the following steps:

  • Pay your $200 Enrollment Fee!
  • Confirm your Acceptance!
  • Complete the 2022-2023 FAFSA and the 2023-2024 FAFSA. A completed FAFSA is required for all accepted students. Saint Augustine’s University school code is 002968 (FAFSA).
  • Submit your Residence Life Housing Contract.
  • Schedule your Accuplacer Test by contacting Ms. Joyce Bannerman (Students that have already taken the SAT/ACT will not be required to take the Accuplacer Test. Please make sure that you have submitted your test scores to the Admissions Office)
  • Register by June 15, 2023.

Admission is limited. Qualified applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. All required documents (final transcript, shot records, etc.) must be submitted before Friday, June 1, 2023.
