The Episcopal Church’s Office of Black Ministries visited Saint Augustine’s University Tuesday, March 19, through Thursday, March 21, for a Campus Symposium. The Office of Black Ministries visits each of the three Episcopal historically black colleges — Saint Augustine’s University, Saint Paul’s College and Vorhees College — annually.  The purpose of the visit is to share the university experience with clergy from around the country. The Episcopal Church is dedicated to developing leadership from among the African Diaspora throughout the Church. The Campus Symposium is seen as a means to strengthen relationships as students connect with Episcopal Church leaders both ordained and lay.

The Symposium began with a jazz mass with the Rt. Rev. Michael B. Curry as the celebrant, and music provided by the Jazz Mass Quartet of Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church in Raleigh. The clergy and lay team visited with students in their classrooms, conducted a forum to discuss the student experience, and attended the UNCF Governor’s Luncheon.
