The Athletic Department accepted and completed the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge at the George Williams Athletic Complex Friday, August 22. The department was challenged by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association conference office.

“I’m glad we answered the challenge,” Athletic Director George Williams said. “Now we challenge anyone who wants to participate.”

The Ice Bucket Challenge was held to raise awareness for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also called Lou Gehrig’s disease. It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

The activity involves dumping a bucket of ice water on one’s head to promote attention to ALS. In addition to the athletic staff, student-athletes from several sports and other campus staff members took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge.
